About the Congress

The World's Premier Meeting in Transgender Voice Surgery

The International Association of TransVoice Surgeons (IATVS) was founded to advance the science and practice of surgical and therapeutic interventions for transgender voice care. Our congresses are characterized by intimate, collaborative learning environments with single-track programming that facilitates deep networking and knowledge exchange among international faculty and participants.

In 2027, IATVS comes to Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood, Oregon — the first time our congress has convened in North America, and the first time the entire congress will gather under one roof: sessions, meals, the gala and guest rooms, all in one historic mountain lodge. Hosted by James P. Thomas, MD, Congress President, this meeting represents a unique opportunity to expand IATVS visibility and membership among North American otolaryngologists and speech-language pathologists.

Previous congresses have convened in Berlin, Mumbai, Seoul, and Marbella, attracting an intimate international faculty. The 2027 congress will welcome approximately 60–100 participants from across the globe.

Fly into Portland, Wake Up on Mt. Hood

Participants arrive through Portland International Airport (PDX), about 90 minutes from Timberline Lodge. Portland sits at the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers, surrounded by the Cascades, the Columbia River Gorge and the Oregon Coast — well worth a few days before or after the congress. Early November brings autumn color to the valleys and, some years, the first snow to the mountain.

Meeting Organizer: Congress logistics are managed by Well-Assembled Meetings (WAM), Julie Vissers — a professional conference management company based in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Registration, the lodge room block, group transport and on-site coordination will be handled through WAM.

The IATVS 2027 Congress will be held entirely at Timberline Lodge — the hand-built 1930s National Historic Landmark on the south face of Mt. Hood, at 6,000 ft and about 90 minutes from Portland International Airport. Sessions, meals, the gala and guest rooms are all under one roof.

About the Lodge
Built by hand in 1936–38 by WPA craftsmen and dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937, Timberline is a living museum of Northwest timber, stone and hand-forged iron. A heated outdoor pool, fireside lounges and the Pacific Crest Trail are steps from the meeting rooms.
